Easter is just around the corner, and while soppy people like me might be content to look at pictures of newborn animals all day, your own excitable youngsters might be looking for something a bit more adventurous. It can be hard to keep the whole family satisfied, too! But never fear, our agents at Can You Escape? have scoured the calendar to find our top five recommended Easter activities for the family in York that are sure to put a spring in any young bunny’s step this Easter. So, without further ado, and in no particular order:

🐰 SOMETHING TO EXPLORE: Hoppy Easter Adventure Trail / Mother Shipton’s / 1-28 April

Is it finally spring? Now that we’ve pushed through the cold snap of March, it seems like we’re finally going to get some sun, and what better way to enjoy it than a family adventure trail? Mother Shipton’s park promises to be “transformed with props and actors,” with a chance to solve puzzles for prizes, and you can even meet some bunnies! Children with a taste for discovery are sure to love a scenic day out, and a chocolatey reward for the best clue-solvers is hard to pass up!

🐰 SOMETHING TO THRILL: In the Willows: The Musical / York Theatre Royal / 16-20 April

Kenneth Grahame’s timeless classic is back, but like you’ve never seen it before, and with “soaring vocals and spectacular street dance” to boot! All your favourite Wind in the Willows characters are here, but now Mole is trying to settle in at her new school, and Rattie is a bit of a bad influence! There’s something for the whole family here, with fresh takes on characters parents love, but brought into the foot-stomping, wise-cracking twenty first century.

🐰 SOMETHING LOCAL: The Very Legendary Easter Egg Hunt / Rowntree Park / 18 April

Discover the secret hiding place of the Easter bunny, and all just outside York’s walls! If you’re looking for something a bit more central to do, Rowntree Park is a local gem, providing all the loveliness of nature within a ten-minute walk of York’s beautiful cafes, restaurants and shopping delights. Pick up a clue-sheet in the morning to be in with a chance to win a chocolate egg! This promises to be more low-key than the Mother Shipton’s adventure trail, so perfect for families who’d prefer to relax over the holidays.

🐰 SOMETHING BRAIN-TEASING: Easter Museum Hunt / National Railway Museum / 20-21 April

There are some things they just can’t teach in school: the National Railway Museum’s ‘Easter Museum Hunt’ helps children both learn something new about York and the history of rail, and have fun doing it. Use the app or print off your clues at home to “curate your own museum adventure.” If you need a break from all the bunnies and chocolate, and fancy something more educational, then the National Railway Museum is always a great bet, especially when they have special events like this!

🐰 ALL OF THE ABOVE!: Can You Escape?

It’s no secret that our escape rooms make a brilliant activity for all ages. Explore the room to find the items you need, be thrilled by our storytelling, tease your brain with our mind-bending puzzles, and all in York’s city centre! You’ve got 60 minutes to save the world: do you think your family has what it takes?

What’s more, over Easter we’ll be offering our very own seasonal event: Can You Eggscape? Find the hidden bunnies in our rooms for a chocolatey prize! But you’d better book quickly – after all, the clock’s ticking.
